The endocrine specialist, as well as the primary care provider, faces an epidemic of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Any information that enables us to become better informed or to deliver better care is of great practical interest. The poster and presentation summaries presented in this supplement offer insights into the use of insulin and incretin mimetic therapy and provide an overview of where we are in insulin therapy today.

Volume 1, Supplement A Sep 2006
Hyperglycemia at the time of hospital admission is a significant predictor of increased mortality among patients with acute myocardial infarction. Furthermore, hyperglycemia and insulin resistance both exacerbate a large number of systemic factors that are known to increase the risk of coronary artery disease or to predict relatively poor clinical outcomes.

This supplement is an outgrowth of presentations made during a symposium for cardiologists and other cardiac care professionals, “Improving Control of Hyperglycemia,” which was held in Dallas, Texas, in November 2005.
